JAECOO J7 SHS debuts in South Africa with 90 km all-electric range

Posted on 06 Jun 2025 under Uncategorized

  • JAECOO’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, the J7 SHS, debuts in South Africa with 90 km of electric-only range.
  • Delivers 255 kW and 525 N.m, with fast-charging and a total driving range of over 1,200 km.
  • Luxuriously equipped, packed with advanced safety tech, and backed by a comprehensive aftersales support plan.

Today, Brand O&J unveiled the 2025 JAECOO J7 SHS in South Africa. As the first plug-in hybrid SUV from JAECOO, the J7 SHS demonstrates the automaker’s commitment to sustainable motoring and catering to a wider variety of consumer needs.

The second model to bear the JAECOO nameplate in South Africa, the J7 SHS is powered by a petrol engine assisted by an electric motor. The 18.3 kWh battery provides an all-electric range (AER) of 90 km, while the combined driving range of 1,200+ km enables long distances to be covered without the need to refuel constantly.

Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine which, together with the electric motor, produces combined outputs of 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque, resulting in responsive acceleration. Power is sent to the front wheels through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The J7 SHS will offer four drive modes: Sport, Eco, and Standard.

With a maximum DC charging speed of up to 40 kW, the J7 SHS supports fast charging when used with compatible DC chargers. The 18.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack can replenish itself from 30-80% in just 20 minutes.

Sharing its bold yet sophisticated styling with the standard J7, the SHS derivative distinguishes itself with model-specific 19-inch alloy wheels and ‘PHEV’ badging on the tailgate. The J7 SHS benefits from LED head- and taillights, as well as a standard panoramic sunroof. The newcomer will be available in a choice of paint finishes:

  • Moonlight Silver
  • Carbon Black
  • Olive Grey
  • Khaki White

As befitting an SUV from the Brand O&J stable, the J7 SHS is generously equipped, offering a host of luxury features as standard. Occupants are seated on black leather upholstery, with the front passengers benefiting from both seat heating and ventilation, as well as electric adjustment – six-way for the driver and four-way for the passenger. Dual-zone climate control and a refrigerated centre armrest are also included, along with ambient lighting to create a more personalised environment within the cabin.

The J7 SHS also offers several practical and convenient features, including keyless entry and push-button start, a second-row centre armrest, a cargo area cover that conceals a 500 L boot, and a parcel shelf that cleverly converts into a projector screen. Folding down the 60:40 split rear bench avails even more space, with a total of 1265 L available for carrying larger items. The tailgate is electrically operated for greater ease of use.

Positioned in front of the driver is a 10.25-inch LCD cluster that displays all relevant and necessary information. At the centre of the fascia sits a 14.8-inch touchscreen, which controls various vehicle functions – including wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and the built-in satellite navigation system. An eight-speaker Sony sound system delivers a clear and crisp listening experience, while a 50-watt wireless charger with integrated ventilation enables rapid charging of mobile devices while keeping them cool. Naturally, most functions can also be operated via voice control.

The J7 SHS comes equipped with JAECOO’s full suite of standard safety features, including over 16 ADAS technologies, including:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Automatic Emergency Braking – Vehicle, Pedestrian & Bicycle Recognition (AEB)
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Lane-Keep Assist (LKA)
  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD)
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Assist with Braking (RCTA)
  • Rear Traffic Alert (RTA)
  • Traffic Jam Assist (TJA)
  • Intelligent High Beam Control (IHC)

A 540-degree camera system, along with front and rear parking sensors, further assists with everyday manoeuvrability, helping to make tight urban parking safer and more convenient.

Additionally, the J7 SHS is equipped with dual front, front side, and side curtain airbags, along with a front-centre airbag positioned between the front seats to prevent front occupants from colliding in a side-impact crash. These advanced safety features played a key role in securing the J7 SHS a five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP crash safety tests.

“The launch of the J7 SHS marks a significant step in our commitment to sustainable mobility,” commented Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “As JAECOO’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, it reflects our ongoing investment in future-forward technologies that reduce emissions without compromising performance or comfort.”

With its 90 km electric range, advanced safety systems, and refined interior, the J7 SHS is designed to meet the evolving needs of South African drivers who want more efficient choices—without sacrificing the driving experience they expect from a modern SUV.

The full JAECOO J7 line-up has also been renewed with feature upgrades to better meet local demand. Notably, the Vortex trim level now includes a standard panoramic sunroof in response to customer demands. With the refresh, the J7 is available in four specification levels across two powertrain types: internal combustion engine (ICE) and the newly launched SHS (Super Hybrid System).

Pricing for the full J7 range is as follows:

J7 Vortex

Buyers also receive seven years of roadside assistance, offering added peace of mind and enhanced ownership value.

OMODA launches C9 PHEV in South Africa, offering 150 km electric range, 440 kW of power, and flagship-level luxury

Posted on 06 Jun 2025 under Uncategorized

The new OMODA C9 PHEV, a luxury plug-in hybrid SUV that combines electrified efficiency, performance, and premium luxury, has officially launched in South Africa. Designed for customers who value sustainability, luxury, and performance, the C9 PHEV offers all-electric capability for everyday journeys and the power and range of a petrol engine for longer journeys.

This marks the next step in OMODA’s commitment to offering South African drivers more electrified options.

With an electric-only range of up to 150 km and a combined range of over 1,100 km, the C9 PHEV suits daily commutes and weekend escapes. A powerful combination of a high-efficiency electric motor and refined petrol engine delivers seamless power, with outputs totalling 440 kW and 915 Nm of torque. As such, the C9 PHEV impresses with responsive acceleration, but that doesn’t come at the cost of fuel consumption. The combined fuel-use figure is as low as 1.4 L/100 km, making it an exceptionally efficient luxury SUV.

Charging is fast and straightforward, whether at home or one of South Africa’s growing network of public charging stations. The 34.5 kWh battery pack can be recharged in 5.5 hours when connected to a home charging Wall Box. Thanks to its 70 kW fast-charging capability, the C9 PHEV can replenish its battery from 30-80% in 25 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charger.

The C9 PHEV surrounds its occupants with premium finishes, advanced connectivity features, and intuitive technology. From soft-touch materials to an immersive sound system and intelligent driver assistance features, every detail reflects OMODA’s dedication to luxury.

Offered exclusively in the range-topping Explore trim, the C9 PHEV greets customers with refined exterior styling. It features an eye-catching diamond-shaped grille, daytime running lights, and LED head- and taillights. The C9 PHEV boasts 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and privacy glass for the second row. Red-painted brake callipers hint at sportiness, underscoring the C9 PHEV’s performance capabilities.

Exterior colours include Cosmic Black, Meteorite Grey, Moonlight White, and Quantum Grey. The C9 PHEV introduces a two-tone black roof option, available exclusively with Moonlight White and Tech Grey.

In line with the C9 PHEV’s premium status, the interior combines contemporary design with high-end materials to create a distinctive experience for both front and rear occupants. The PHEV features Black/Light Brown Premium Nappa leather-trimmed seats, adding a layer of sophistication to the cabin. The front seats are electrically adjustable—six-way for the driver and four-way for the front passenger—and offer heating and ventilation for year-round comfort. The Nappa leather-trimmed steering wheel is also heated, enhancing the sense of luxury and attention to detail.

Rear passengers also have an electrically adjustable backrest and seat heating. Standard equipment includes dual-zone climate control, second-row air conditioning controls, and heated and cooled armrest storage.

For a more luxurious and quiet driving experience, the C9 PHEV features acoustic laminated glass. This glass reduces aural intrusions within the cabin by minimising wind noise, resulting in a more relaxed interior ambience.

A comprehensive entertainment and media package will entertain passengers on even the longest journeys. A 12-speaker Sony Sound System provides a crisp and clear listening experience for even the most discerning audiophiles. Bluetooth connectivity, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, is standard, as is a 50w wireless charging pad for mobile devices.

The sumptuous cabin features dual 12.3-inch digital displays. The centre control screen operates the audio and other vehicle controls, while the Driver Cluster Screen displays necessary and relevant information. Thanks to the intuitive Intelligent Voice Command system, one never needs to take one’s hands off the wheel; simply say “Hello, OMODA,” and the vehicle can carry out tasks based on voice commands.

Other convenience features on the C9 include remote keyless start, push-button start, and a power-operated tailgate, revealing 660 litres of boot space (1,783 litres with the second row folded flat).

“The addition of the C9 PHEV to OMODA’s lineup signals a new era for efficient luxury motoring in South Africa,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “It’s an SUV for those who want to embrace electric mobility but value performance, elegance, and safety. Pricing for the new OMODA C9 PHEV is R999,000. The latest addition to the OMODA lineup comes with a seven-year/100,000 km service plan, seven-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year/200,000 km warranty for certain electric drive unit components, a 10-year/1 million km engine warranty, and a new industry-leading 10-year/unlimited km power battery pack warranty (for the first owner, reverting to 10 years/200,000 km for subsequent owners). Posted on 03 Jun 2025 under Uncategorized

Making its global debut at the 2025 Shanghai International Auto Show, the all-new JAECOO J5 is a striking new crossover that expands the brand’s presence with a more accessible and compact offering. Positioned below the J7, the more compact J5 brings the JAECOO marque within reach of South Africans seeking a premium SUV experience at a more accessible price point.

Despite its smaller footprint, the J5 retains the high levels of luxury, safety and convenience that have come to define the JAECOO brand.

Power comes from a responsive 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 115 kW and 230 N.m of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels. There are various drive modes for the driver to select from, including ‘Normal,’ ‘Eco,’ and ‘Sport.’ In due course, the J5 lineup will grow to accommodate plug-in hybrid and battery-electric derivatives.

“The JAECOO J5 represents the next chapter for our brand in South Africa,” commented Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “It brings the same premium quality and design sophistication that our customers expect, now in a more compact and attainable package.”

Inside, the J5 offers occupants a first-rate experience onboard, with wireless charging, voice command functionality, and an available panoramic sunroof. Options include leather upholstery and many other luxuries, from automatic climate control to ambient lighting and ventilated seating.

Safety is of the utmost importance at JAECOO, reflected in the J7 SHS plug-in hybrid’s five-star score in recent Euro NCAP crash testing. The J5 is no exception, and it comes equipped with collision avoidance technology, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot detection, just to name a few of the safety features.

“With its advanced safety features, versatility, and refined interior, the new J5 is designed to meet the needs of modern South Africans who want more from their daily drive,” concluded Gahagan.

In addition to its urban practicality—the J5 measures 4,380 mm long, making it ideal for city commuting—the newcomer is ready for all sorts of adventures. It has robust underbody protection to shield it from the harshest gravel roads and towing capability to meet the needs of drivers who demand versatility.

The JAECOO J5 will launch in South Africa in the second quarter of 2025. Further details, including local specifications and pricing, will be confirmed closer to the launch date.

The flagship C9 range will welcome the C9 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid derivative that blends efficiency, performance, luxury, and low emissions in one sophisticated package.

While closely resembling its ICE-powered sibling, the C9 PHEV stands out with an electrified powertrain that delivers a combined output of 440 kW and 915 N.m of torque. This impressive performance is achieved through a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with four electric motors, resulting in acceleration that rivals some of the most powerful performance SUVs and sedans.

However, the C9 PHEV’s dual nature as a plug-in hybrid also ensures impressive efficiency, achieving just 1.4 L/100 km on the combined cycle. Its 34.5 kWh battery pack offers an all-electric range of up to 150 km, while the combined range is rated at 1,100 km – ideal for longer journeys. When connected to a DC fast charger, the battery can be recharged from 30% to 80% in as little as 25 minutes.

Local specifications for the C9 PHEV are yet to be confirmed, but the luxury SUV will offer a comprehensive suite of features designed to enhance comfort and safety. The C9 PHEV, available exclusively in the high-spec Explore variant, is expected to feature 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and heated seating for front and rear passengers.

“The arrival of the C9 PHEV in South Africa marks an exciting addition to our lineup, offering a compelling blend of performance, efficiency, and luxury,” commented Shannon Gahagan, Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “The C9 PHEV is a testament to our commitment to providing discerning drivers with more choice, combining the performance of a powerful SUV with the efficiency of electrification, all in a luxurious package.”

Several new models from the Brand O&J division, including the new OMODA C7, JAECOO J7 SHS, and JAECOO J5, will join the OMODA C9 PHEV in 2025.

JAECOO confirms June launch for new J7 SHS plug-in hybrid in South Africa

Posted on 22 May 2025 under Uncategorized

JAECOO is pleased to announce the imminent arrival of the J7 SHS, the powerful plug-in hybrid version of the popular J7 SUV, in the South African market. Set to launch next month, this electrified premium offering will be the second model to wear the JAECOO nameplate locally and the first of several new and electrified models to follow.

Powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor, the J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System) delivers the best of both worlds: strong performance, exceptional fuel economy, and the refinement and comfort JAECOO customers have come to expect.

The J7 SHS delivers confident and responsive performance with its electrified drivetrain, sending power smoothly to the wheels via a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). But its standout feature is the impressive 90 km all-electric range, making it possible to complete daily commutes—and even slightly longer trips—without using any fuel or producing tailpipe emissions. When connected to a 40 kW DC charger, the 18.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery can be recharged from 30–80% in just 20 minutes, helping motorists stay topped up and keep running costs low.

The combined range is equally impressive, with a possible 1,200 km on a single tank of fuel. The J7 SHS consumes less than 5 L/100 km, making it one of the most frugal vehicles in its class. On a recent 1,100 km journey between Cape Town and Gqeberha, the J7 SHS showcased its efficiency by posting an average fuel consumption of just 4.88 L/100 km.

“The J7 SHS represents a significant step forward for the JAECOO brand in South Africa,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “It brings together performance, efficiency and premium comfort in a way that meets the evolving needs of today’s drivers—whether they’re looking to reduce emissions, save on fuel, or simply enjoy the flexibility of an electrified drive.”

As expected from a JAECOO, the J7 SHS is generously equipped with the latest technology and safety features found within the sumptuously trimmed leather interior. More than 15 driver assistance features are fitted as standard, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic assist with braking.

While final specifications have yet to be confirmed, buyers can expect the usual refinements, including interior ambient lighting and 19-inch alloy wheels, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more.

The J7 SHS will be joined by several new JAECOO models, including the J5, along with additional electrified vehicles from the O&J stable in the coming months.

Local pricing and full specifications for the J7 SHS will be announced soon.

The future has arrived: Upcoming OMODA C3 redefines the crossover with cyber-mecha aesthetics

Posted on 29 Apr 2025 under Uncategorized

OMODA has officially unveiled its latest innovation to the world: the futuristic OMODA C3. Making its dramatic global debut at the Shanghai International Auto Show, the C3 made its debut with a cinematic and high-energy launch, revealing a striking, cyber-inspired design—a confident step forward in the brand’s ongoing evolution.

Building on the legacy of “Art in Motion,” the OMODA C3 draws inspiration from lightning, merging cyber-futuristic sharpness with deconstructed lines and electric energy to redefine aesthetic expression. This is not merely a design study but a radical declaration for future mobility, where art collides with cyber-mecha and dynamic flow merges with boldness. The C3 is a crossover designed for Gen Z, defying convention to forge a new paradigm.

Every element of the OMODA C3 reflects a philosophy of advanced mechanical aesthetics. Its body is sculpted with precision, featuring sharp, geometric lines reminiscent of interstellar battleships. From the intricate spoke patterns of the wheels to the sharply angled side mirrors and meticulously detailed headlamps, the C3 blurs the line between machine and living entity.

“With the OMODA C3, we’ve moved beyond design trends to create a new visual language that speaks to a generation shaped by technology, individuality, and bold self-expression,” commented Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “It’s more than a car; it’s a statement of where mobility, art, and innovation converge.”

While the OMODA “Art in Motion” design language captured the interplay of shadow and light through flowing curves, the OMODA C3’s cyber-mecha lightning amplifies this dynamism. Lightning, nature’s most ferocious yet precise force, is fragmented by C3’s lightning-strike contours and reassembled through cyber-futuristic logic.

Echoing the “Art in Motion” philosophy of balancing movement and stillness, the C3 captures the instant of a thunderbolt’s strike, freezing that energy into bold, electrifying lines. Every sharp contour reflects a shift in light; every etched line follows the flow of current. The C3 isn’t just a new vehicle—it’s a bold statement of future-facing design.

Inside, the C3’s cabin has been styled as a futuristic command centre. Drawing inspiration from aviation and performance design, it features fighter jet-style instrumentation, mechanical switchgear, and an immersive cockpit experience designed for the modern driver.

The OMODA C3 is officially confirmed for the South African market and will be introduced locally in 2026, following its global launch in October 2025. Local motorists can look forward to a cutting-edge addition to OMODA’s growing range, offering a unique blend of bold styling, advanced technology, and dynamic performance. The C3 will be available in both petrol and NEV powertrains, catering to a wider range of driving preferences.

OMODA & JAECOO accelerate 2025 NEV strategy with bold debuts at Auto Shanghai

Posted on 24 Apr 2025 under Uncategorized

Two years after their unveiling at Auto Shanghai, OMODA & JAECOO are returning to the biennial international show with several new models, including the OMODA C5 HEV and C7 SHS and the all-electric J5 BEV. Through the marque’s new energy vehicle matrix, OMODA and JAECOO are showcasing their vision of “Born Global, Born NEV.”

2025 is a busy year for OMODA & JAECOO, with the all-new JAECOO J7 SHS and the OMODA C7 PHEV just two of the new, electrified models due to reach South African shores later this year. In the coming months, the automaker will accelerate the implementation of its global NEV strategy, launching five new SHS (Super Hybrid System) models throughout the year to cater to an ever-growing customer base interested in electrified vehicles.

The OMODA C7 and JAECOO J5 are the centre of this strategy. Later this year, these two core models will also reach South African dealerships, solidifying both brands in their respective markets. Additional plans include further investment in European markets, expansion to 19 countries, and extension of the global network to more than 60 regions.

Locally, OMODA & JAECOO have grown from strength to strength and is now one of the country’s best-selling passenger vehicle brands. With just three models on offer, the automaker delivered 806 new vehicles to South African customers, with the ever-popular C5 leading the way with 559 units.

In the first quarter of 2025, OMODA & JAECOO recorded a remarkable 370% quarter-on-quarter increase in NEV sales. With plug-in hybrid models gaining momentum across key markets, the brand anticipates that hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs will account for more than 50% of its total global volume by year-end—further cementing its status as the world’s fastest-growing hybrid vehicle brand.

This success is evident in European markets, with the J7 SHS proving a hit from the moment it was launched in Spain. Within its first month of sales, it was ranked among the top three best-selling plug-in hybrids and captured 7% of the Spanish PHEV market. Elsewhere, such as the United Kingdom, the new J7 SHS has pushed OMODA and JAECOO to become the fastest-growing car brands.

When the J7 SHS arrives in South Africa, it will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor that produce combined outputs of 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque. Thanks to the 18.3 kWh battery pack, the electrified SUV can travel up to 90 km on electric power alone, with a combined driving range of around 1,200 km.

“As we return to Auto Shanghai with a bold new lineup, we’re thrilled to share a glimpse of the electrified future OMODA & JAECOO are driving toward,” commented Shannon Gahagan, Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “Our newest models reflect not just cutting-edge technology, but a deep understanding of what the modern motorist wants. South Africa remains a dynamic and growing part of our journey. With the arrival of our latest Super Hybrid and plug-in models, we’re setting the stage for a new era of intelligent mobility in Mzansi.”

Additional information regarding the new OMODA C5 HEV, C7 SHS, and all-electric JAECOO J5 BEV will follow at a later date.

OMODA unveils refreshed C5 X Series with enhanced performance and even greater value

Posted on 17 Apr 2025 under Uncategorized

The OMODA C5, one of South Africa’s favourite premium compact crossovers, is better than ever, thanks to a bold new update called the C5 X Series. This update brings improvements across the board, from a more refined driving experience to greater practicality. The latest iteration builds on the C5’s success while offering even more to customers who demand style and substance at an affordable price.

At first glance, the striking front fascia has been redesigned, giving the C5 a sportier and more upmarket look. The diamond matrix grille, a striking part of the C5’s styling, is more polished and sophisticated.

The lower elements of the bumper have also been revised for a cleaner and more modern look. Similarly, the headlights have been restyled, while the daytime running lamps have been sculpted for a more dynamic look. Overall, the C5 has been brought more in line with the C9, which was launched in South Africa in November 2024.

But OMODA has gone further, enhancing the package with sportier, black-painted alloy wheels for a more dynamic presence.

Alongside the refreshed design elements, a new dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is now standard for the C5 X Series. The smooth-shifting six-speed gearbox is paired with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing 115 kW and 230 N.m of torque for a more responsive and efficient driving experience.

These enhancements have improved performance, reducing the 0-100 km/h time by 0.9 seconds to a swift nine seconds. Efficiency has also been improved, with fuel consumption now rated at 6.9L/100 km—an improvement over the outgoing Elegance and Lux trim’s 7.4L/100 km.

The mechanical revisions extend beyond acceleration and efficiency. The previous torsion beam rear suspension has been replaced with a multilink setup, delivering improved ride comfort and sharper handling. This elevates the driving experience, offering greater luxury and dynamic control.

OMODA engineers have further improved the dynamics of the C5 X Series, adjusting the brake pedal for more responsive and engaging feedback. Additionally, improved cornering stability ensures that the updated crossover delivers a more confident and enjoyable ride in all conditions.

The drive mode selector now includes an additional mode, giving drivers more options. There are now three modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Inside, the C5 benefits from more luxurious soft-touch materials for the driver and front passenger door trim, while the 15-watt wireless charger has been replaced with a 50-watt charger with a ventilation system. However, the most impressive revision is the increased boot space, with the space behind the rear seats increasing from an already generous 378 to 442 litres. With the rear row folded flat, the C5 can swallow up to 1,149 litres of cargo – 74 more litres than the outgoing model.

“With the latest updates to the C5 lineup, we’ve not only enhanced performance and efficiency but also introduced key refinements that elevate the driving experience,” commented Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

“From the introduction of the smooth-shifting dual-clutch transmission to the adoption of multilink rear suspension, every improvement has been made with comfort and responsiveness in mind. What’s more, we’ve managed to offer these advancements at a more accessible price point, reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional value without compromise,” added Gahagan.

OMODA continues to deliver exceptional value in the compact crossover segment with the introduction of the new C5 Lux X and Elegance X. Alongside a host of enhancements, both models now arrive with more accessible pricing. The Lux X is available at R425,900, while the Elegance X comes in at R465,900—both more affordable than before.

The existing Street and Style derivatives will remain in the lineup, ensuring a wide range of options for customers seeking both value and performance.

Despite the price drop, all C5 models receive OMODA’s five-year/150,000 km warranty, five-year/70,000 km service plan, and the industry-leading ten-year/one-million km engine warranty as part of the standard price.

Posted on 28 Feb 2025 under Uncategorized

Following a successful tour across the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, a fleet of JAECOO and OMODA plug in hybrid vehicles has demonstrated the real-world benefits of electrification, achieving exceptional fuel efficiency and range figures over the lengthy journey.

Covering more than 1,100 km, the fleet of JAECOO J7 Super Hybrid System and OMODA C9 plug in hybrids, filled with luggage and multiple people, departed Cape Town on February 22, travelling over four days in various weather conditions towards Gqeberha to showcase the efficiency and capability of these premium SUVs.

Despite some wet weather, which can increase fuel consumption by 5-10% depending on the severity of rain and amount of standing water that the tyres have to cut through, the JAECOO J7 SHS delivered an impressive average fuel consumption of 4.88 L/100 km—remarkable considering its WLTP-estimated 5 L/100 km figure. While many vehicles can achieve such efficiency, few offer the power of the J7 SHS. Its turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, paired with an electric motor, produces 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque.

The 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery enables an all-electric range of 90 km and can be charged from 30-80% in just 20 minutes using a DC fast charger. The J7 SHS covered 1,228 km on this trip, underscoring its efficiency and versatility.

“We are delighted with the road trip results,” said Tony Liu, CEO of OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “Electrification is the future, and Brand O&J is at the forefront of this technology, as shown by the plug in hybrid variants of the C9 and J7 and the upcoming all-electric J6. We are committed to offering South African motorists a choice between combustion, plug in hybrid, and fully electric powertrains.”

The OMODA C9 PHEV performed just as impressively, achieving a best average fuel consumption of 5.88 L/100 km over the trip (WLTP – estimate is 6.63 L/100 km). The premium SUV covered 1,189 km on a single tank—remarkable for a vehicle that produces 440 kW and 915 N.m of torque.

The J7 and C9 plug in hybrids offer one of the best-combined ranges of any electrified vehicle currently available in South Africa, making them among the most practical and capable plug in hybrids on the market.

Aside from efficiency and performance, the road trip highlighted the environmental benefits of electrification, with significantly lower emissions thanks to the electric range. This balance between electric driving and long-distance capability positions PHEVs as an ideal step in South Africa’s transition to cleaner mobility.

A total of 28 journalists and media personalities from Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom joined the journey. Starting in Cape Town and ending at Addo Elephant Park, each leg of the trip highlighted a different theme, from Ocean and Beach to Forest, Flora, and Fauna, showcasing the vehicles’ efficiency and the beauty of South Africa’s diverse landscapes.

OMODA and JAECOO set to showcase PHEV efficiency in epic Cape Town-to-Gqeberha endurance drive

OMODA and JAECOO are embarking on an electrified adventure with the all-new C9 and J7 plug-in hybrid SUVs, which are due in South Africa later this year. 14 PHEVs (4 C9s and 10 J7s) will set off a long-distance trip between Cape Town and Gqeberha to prove their efficiency, combined petrol-electric range, and comfort and driving experience over several days.

The objective? To travel more than 1,100 km – without charging or refuelling any vehicles along the way. While this may seem like a tall order in many SUVs, the C9 and J7 PHEVs boast exceptional range thanks to their electrified drivetrains.

28 journalists and guests from Australia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia will depart Cape Town in electrified SUVs. Over four days, they will travel to the Addo Elephant Park, enjoying a specially curated trip themed after the natural beauty of the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces.

The trip starts on 22 February in Cape Town, with the range drive beginning the following day. The drive is set against an Ocean/Beach theme. As the convoy of electrified OMODAs and JAECOOs heads towards Gqeberha, drivers and passengers will be immersed in a Forest, Flora, and Fauna theme inspired by the natural beauty of the Garden Route. On the final day, 25 February, the journey will take on a Bush and Safari theme, concluding at the iconic Addo Elephant Park.

“Our upcoming endurance drive is more than just a long-distance journey—it’s an opportunity to demonstrate the impressive efficiency, performance, and comfort of the OMODA C9 and JAECOO J7 plug-in hybrids,” commented Tony Liu, CEO of OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “Covering over 1,100 km without refuelling or recharging highlights the capability of our electrified drivetrains while giving drivers a chance to experience the beauty of South Africa’s diverse landscapes from behind the wheel of cutting-edge vehicles.”

The J7 PHEV is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 3 DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) that integrates an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque. An 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides a WLTP-estimated all-electric range of 90 km, providing a driving range of 1,200 km. When connected to a DC fast charger, the battery can be recharged from 30-80% in just 20 minutes.

The range-topping C9 PHEV takes performance to the next level. While the standard C9 is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbopetrol engine, the PHEV variant features a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine that, together with a 3 DHT and three electric motors, delivers a remarkable 440 kW and 915 N.m of torque. This enables the C9 to accelerate like a performance car while maintaining the refinement and composure the C9 has become known for. The WLTP-estimated all-electric range is 150 km, pushing the total range to 1,100 km. When plugged into a DC fast charger, the C9 PHEV can replenish its battery pack from 30-80% in 25 minutes.

Seven things to know about the JAECOO J7: redefining the premium SUV segment

Posted on 10 Feb 2025 under Uncategorized

Launched locally in April 2024, the JAECOO J7 has made its mark in South Africa in a matter of months. This striking premium SUV is designed for those who demand strong performance and luxury at a reasonable price point, making it the ideal choice for consumers looking to elevate their driving experience. Here’s what you’ll love about the J7.

1. Dynamic Performance

The JAECOO J7 delivers a stimulating driving experience courtesy of its turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, which produces a robust 145 kW and 290 N.m of torque. Paired with a smooth seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, it ensures seamless gear shifts, enhancing the J7’s relaxed feel. From the front-wheel drive Vortex or Glacier to the all-wheel drive Inferno, the J7 handles with confidence.

2. Blending Power And Efficiency

Despite its powerful performance, the J7 is highly efficient, with fuel consumption as low as 7.0L/100 km (Vortex and Glacier) and 7.8L/100 km (Inferno). The J7 offers excellent range, providing owners with a theoretical range of up to 728 km, thanks to its 51-litre fuel tank. Add a CO2 rating as low as 163 g/km, and you have an eco-friendly SUV that doesn’t compromise performance.

3. Form Meets Function

The J7 is designed to turn heads. Its avant-garde exterior is adorned with eye-catching details, including LED lights at the front and rear. An imposing grille with horizontal lines dominates the front end and is proudly adorned with bold JAECOO badging. Flush-fitting, electrically retractable door handles enhance aerodynamic performance and the J7’s modern styling.

4. Up To 1,335 Litres Of Packing Space

With a compact length of 4,500 mm, the J7 is easy to manoeuvre in urban environments, but it still delivers when it comes to practicality. The boot provides 412 litres of packing space, and if you require more room, the 60/40 split-folding rear bench stows away, providing 1,335 litres—perfect for longer trips or transporting larger items.

5. First-Class Refinements

All J7 derivatives have sumptuously equipped cabins. The R549 900 Vortex receives ambient lighting, leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and dual-zone climate control as standard. The Glacier and Inferno trims take things to the next level, offering heated/ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and even a heated steering wheel in the Inferno – features that customers would pay extra for in more expensive vehicles.

6. Packed With The Very Best Technology

The JAECOO J7 is packed with advanced technology to elevate the driving experience. A portrait-style screen—measuring 14.8 inches in Glacier and Inferno models—enables intuitive navigation through infotainment functions such as wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, the eight-speaker Sony sound system, Bluetooth, and more. Additionally, the J7 boasts four USB ports and satellite navigation. Glacier and Inferno models also include a built-in dash cam.

7. Sophisticated Safety Features

Safety is at the core of every J7, with a suite of advanced driver-assists. All trims come standard with a 360-degree camera, lane-change assist, rear traffic alert, blind-spot detection, and several other aids. The Glacier and Inferno models add even more technology, including adaptive cruise control, emergency lane-keeping, forward collision warning, and traffic jam assist, keeping occupants safe on the road.

“The JAECOO J7 redefines what an upmarket SUV is, effortlessly blending qualities that appeal to the contemporary premium consumer,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand & Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO. “With a fine blend of performance, technology, and modern design, the J7 offers a pleasing combination that’s hard to match at this price point.”

From sceptic to believer: why this German luxury car owner made the switch to a Chinese vehicle

Posted on 06 Feb 2025 under Uncategorized

Chinese cars have long been criticised, often unfairly so. The latest models from China are a far cry from the admittedly inferior products that reached South African shores more than a decade ago. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, advanced safety features, and stylish exterior design, the new crop offers a luxurious experience at an appealing price tag.

Unsurprisingly, an increasing number of South Africans are making the switch, trading in their vehicles from well-known premium brands for the latest Chinese models. Adele, a first-time Chinese car owner, is one such example. After owning three German luxury cars from the same brand, she recently purchased a JAECOO J7 Vortex.

Adele and her husband had done their research, reading several reviews before they decided to check the J7 out in person. They were immediately impressed by the styling and the quality of the interior. But the advanced safety features and technology sealed the deal. “We went for a test drive and were hooked immediately. My five-year-old son even commented that it drives better than my previous car,” she laughed.

“It’s a very different experience with the technology. At first, it takes some getting used to—there aren’t many buttons to press inside—but now we’re really enjoying it,” Adele adds, referring to the central touchscreen that operates most of the vehicle controls.

While Chinese cars have often been associated with poor quality, Adele was surprised by the materials and overall feel of the J7. “I’ve always believed that you can feel the quality of a car when you close the door. The sound it makes says a lot about the build. I always look at it when we’re purchasing a new car,” she added, commenting on the solid feel of the J7’s doors.

Another key factor in her decision was the price. Adele had contemplated replacing her German luxury car with a new model but was put off by the increasingly high costs. “The prices keep rising. They base the price on the quality of the product. Sure, it’s a German car, but technology-wise, it doesn’t feel like they’re improving much,” she says. The J7, on the other hand, offered an appealing combination of advanced features at a competitive price.

Initially, Adele was sceptical about the quality of Chinese vehicles. “I thought they looked good, but I wasn’t sure about the quality. I knew a few people who drove Chinese cars, like Cherys, and they said they were happy with them.” She noticed an increasing number of these vehicles on the road and figured these automakers must be doing something right. “When you hear ‘made in China,’ you automatically think of certain things, but look at how many things in our lives come from China.”

As a mother to a young boy, Adele’s main concern was safety. Unsure about the safety standards of Chinese vehicles, her worries were quickly alleviated when she learned more about the J7’s safety features. “The J7 has all the airbags and driver assistance features you could ask for. The safety features are incredible; it warns me of vehicles in my blind spots and other drivers following too closely. It’s so advanced.”

What really surprised Adele, though, was the amount of attention she’s received since purchasing the J7. “I’ve never gotten so many compliments about a car. Everywhere I stop—whether it’s at the shops or in a parking lot—people comment on it. You can see people staring everywhere you stop, and I’ve had countless people telling me how amazing the car looks or wanting to look at the interior. This has never happened with my previous cars. It’s definitely turning heads.”

Switching from a German luxury vehicle to a Chinese car might seem like a downgrade to some, but for Adele, her JAECOO J7 has proven to be a pleasant surprise.

With a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that develops 192 kW of power and 400 N.m of torque, the C9 makes commuting and long-distance driving a cinch. A plug-in hybrid variant is due to join the range later this year, further enhancing customer appeal. Additional new models include the JAECOO J5, as well as the all-electric JAECOO J6.

Both the J7 and C9 are strong contenders for the accolade. They offer solid value in their respective segments, with elegant design, a well-equipped set of standard features, and a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty tied to the first owner.

The 17 finalists will undergo rigorous testing at Zwartkops Raceway in early March. The South African COTY jury will evaluate each vehicle firsthand to decide the ultimate winner. The final scoring will incorporate data from Lightstone Auto, using automated assessments based on sales volumes and adjusted competitor pricing.

OMODA and JAECOO are dedicated to providing customers with outstanding aftersales support. Brand O&J and Chery South Africa operate a 6,000m² spare parts facility housing around 56,000 spare parts valued at R15 million. OMODA & JAECOO secure top 10 spot in South Africa’s new passenger car sales with strong December performance

OMODA and JAECOO, the marques comprising the Brand O&J division, have reached a significant milestone in South Africa, securing a spot among the top 10 new passenger car sales in December 2024.

With 655 vehicles sold last month, Chinese brands were the country’s tenth best-selling passenger car purveyors, competing with established brands. Within the Brand O&J stable, the OMODA C5 led the charge, with 408 units delivered to customers in December.

The introduction of more affordable C5 variants in 2024, such as the Street and Style, has bolstered appeal and brought the OMODA range within reach of more customers. The JAECOO J7 remains popular among consumers looking to balance premium features with value for money. With a starting price of R549,900, it’s no surprise that 1,595 buyers have already made the decision to purchase one since its launch in April 2024.

“OMODA and JAECOO have swiftly established themselves as trusted automakers in South Africa, earning the confidence of the local buying public. This is a testament to the blend of premium features, advanced design, comprehensive warranties, and exceptional value for money in all our vehicles,” commented Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

The division’s latest addition to the local lineup, the range-topping C9, continues to gain traction since its launch in mid-October. With a total of 220 units sold to date, the OMODA C9 is steadily carving out a space in the competitive premium SUV segment. As Brand O&J’s most powerful offering in South Africa, the C9 boasts an efficient 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers impressive outputs of 192 kW and 400 N.m of torque.

Available in two trims – Inspire and Explore AWD – all C9 models come standard with an array of luxury and safety features, including 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and power-adjustable front seats, among other features.

Six new models are poised to join the South African lineup later this year, and OMODA and JAECOO anticipate more customers entering the fold, particularly as several electrified models arrive in the country. This includes the plug-in hybrid C9, the JAECOO J7 PHEV, and the all-electric JAECOO J6.

In addition to these milestones, OMODA and JAECOO are committed to ensuring exceptional aftersales support. The automakers share a 6,000m2 spare parts facility with Chery South Africa, which carries approximately 56,000 spare parts valued at R15 million. This robust parts infrastructure ensures the 52 strong dealer network maintains a 98%parts supply full rate, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to service and parts availability nationwide.

“Our commitment to delivering vehicles that combine premium quality, innovative technology, and exceptional value ensures that we remain at the forefront of meeting the evolving needs of local buyers,” concluded Gahagan.

Brand O&J—the Chery Group division comprising the OMODA and JAECOO marques—entered the South African market in 2023 with the launch of the OMODA C5. Since then, the lineup has grown with the addition of the J7 and, more recently, the C9.

Local consumers have embraced OMODA and JAECOO’s competitively priced premium SUVs, with strong sales across the board. Looking ahead to 2025, both marques are gearing up to expand their respective ranges further, entering new segments and catering to an even broader audience.

“The upcoming OMODA and JAECOO additions in 2025 reflect our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of South African consumers. With the introduction of PHEV and EVs, alongside our traditional offerings, Brand O&J is expanding into new segments,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “There will be something for everyone—whether it’s electrified sustainability, luxury, performance.”

OMODA

C7

The strikingly styled C7, positioned between the C5 and C9, is set to arrive in 2025. It boasts bold styling and a generous specification list and features a distinctive X-shaped grille, which lends the front fascia an unmistakable presence. The frameless grille is complemented by slim headlights that flow with the sleek bodywork, creating a dynamic yet sophisticated appearance.

Measuring 4,621 mm in length, the C7 is compact enough for urban driving, but the generous 2,700 mm wheelbase provides ample room for occupants and luggage. The interior exudes elegance, with premium materials, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, and a 14-speaker sound system heightening the luxury experience.

C9 PHEV

OMODA introduced the C9 in October. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, delivering 192 kW and 400 N.m of torque via an eight-speed automatic transmission. In 2025, the C9 lineup will expand with the introduction of the C9 PHEV, marking the brand’s foray into electrification in South Africa.

The C9 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-litre engine that receives electrical assistance from up to three motors. While local specifications are yet to be confirmed, the C9 plug-in hybrid will deliver an efficient and sustainable luxury SUV experience without compromising performance or refinement.

JAECOO

J5

Positioned below the popular J7, the all-new JAECOO J5 marks the brand’s first entry into the popular SUV segment. It borrows styling cues from its larger sibling, featuring prominent vertical grille slats and squared-off styling that perfectly balances upmarket and rugged styling elements.

Inside, the J5 stands out from the crowd with a 13.2-inch touchscreen and the largest panoramic glass roof in its class, elevating it above the competition. Other impressive features include an advanced air filtration system, smart climate control, and pet-friendly accessories, making it a versatile compact SUV.

J6

The all-electric J6 will also be available in South Africa next year. It will offer consumers a premium battery-powered crossover with light off-roading capability. As the first fully electric vehicle to wear the JAECOO badge, the J6 will attract adventure-minded enthusiasts with a passion for sustainability.

In other markets, the J6 has two powertrain options. The 2WD variant delivers up to 184 kW and 220 N.m of torque, while the 4WD version boosts outputs to 279 kW and 385 N.m, ensuring strong performance, regardless of the terrain.

J6 luxury features include electrically adjustable front seats, an available massage function for the front row, and a 15.6-inch touchscreen. Final specifications and pricing for South Africa will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

J7 PHEV

The JAECOO J7 has proven to be a popular option amongst South African consumers. Adding a plug-in hybrid will bolster appeal, offering buyers an efficient J7 that emits fewer emissions without sacrificing performance. With the introduction of the J7 PHEV and J6, JAECOO can provide consumers with traditional ICE, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles at a reasonable price.

In a recent 1,300 km endurance test conducted in China, the J7 PHEV averaged a fuel-use figure of 3.3L/100 km, considerably lower than the 5.99L/100 km rating. A 90 km all-electric range can be expected, but the test yielded results of 125.2 km. Of course, these figures are subject to change once the J7 PHEV reaches South Africa.

J8

Arriving in 2025, the J8 will occupy the top spot in the JAECOO lineup. This luxury SUV offers seating for up to seven passengers, wrapped in premium materials and equipped with all the features one would expect from a flagship model.

In international markets, the J8 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine delivering 195 kW and 400 N.m of torque. A plug-in hybrid variant is also available overseas but has yet to be confirmed for South Africa.

Introducing the OMODA C5 Street: the affordable premium crossover experience

Posted on 18 Nov 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA South Africa has revealed a new entry-level version of the C5, making the premium crossover lineup even more attainable.

Priced at R329,900, the C5 Street lowers the entry point by R35,000 making it an enticing choice for customers looking to balance premium features and style with value.

“The OMODA C5 Street redefines accessibility in the compact premium crossover segment, offering an exceptional blend of style, comfort, and advanced features at a competitive price,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “With its focus on value and safety, this model invites a broader audience to experience the OMODA brand without compromise.”

To complement the appealing price tag, the Street is well-equipped and comes with all the features one would expect from the Omoda brand. Under the bonnet is a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 83 kW of power and 138 N.m of torque. Mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), power is channelled smoothly to the front wheels, contributing to a relaxed and efficient driving experience. The C5 Street consumes 7.3 L/100 km and, thanks to its 51-litre fuel tank, can cover over 690 km per tank.

The C5 Street boasts ventilated front discs on the front axle and standard discs on the rear, which provide strong stopping power. A McPherson strut suspension setup and torsion beam combination provide an unfettered ride quality and engaging driving dynamics.

Like the rest of the C5 lineup, the Street will turn heads with its eye-catching exterior design. LED daytime running lights and halogen headlights add an upmarket touch to the affordable C5. 17-inch wheels are also standard. Customers can choose from attractive paint colours: Aerial Silver, Carbon Crystal Black, Khaki White, and Phantom Grey.

Even as the entry point to the range, the C5 Street offers an impressive array of luxuries. Customers can look forward to myriad features, including black cloth-trimmed sports front seats with six-way manual adjustment, automatic climate control, a four-way adjustable steering wheel with multi-functional controls, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and cruise control. Keyless entry and push-button start add further convenience to the package.

Infotainment-wise, the C5 Street ships standard with dual 10.25-inch screens. One is the digital instrument display, while the other controls various vehicle functions, including the Intelligent Voice Command system, Bluetooth, a four-speaker sound system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Passengers can make use of two USB ports in the front and rear rows, respectively.

The spacious boot provides 378 litres of packing space with the rear seats in place. Collapsing the standard 60/40 split-folding bench offers 1,075 litres, making the C5 eminently practical. 145 mm of ground clearance makes the C5 Street well-suited to traversing gravel roads easily.

Value for money doesn’t have to come at the cost of safety features. The OMODA C5 Street is comprehensively equipped with electronic stability control (ESC), dual front airbags, front side airbags, a speed limit reminder, and ISOFIX mounting points.

OMODA’s recently announced partnership with Universal Pictures’ Wicked taps into the same youthful energy and excitement that defines the new C5 Street. It’s a natural fit for those who appreciate bold design and the thrill of a new adventure—both on the screen and on the road. Wicked premieres globally on November 22.

The new OMODA C5 Street goes on sale as of the 18th of November and the recommended retail price is R329,900. The new C5 Street comes standard with a 2-year/25 000 service plan, a 5-year/150 000 km vehicle warranty, and OMODA’s industry-leading 10-year/1-million km engine warranty.

JAECOO is excited to announce the arrival of the all-new J5, which was revealed at the 2024 OMODA & JAECOO International User Summit in Wuhu, China, this October. With sophisticated luxury features and a sleek design, the J5 aims to set a new standard in the compact SUV class. The highly anticipated JAECOO model combines clever technology, practicality, and comfort, making it the ideal choice for motorists who value comfort and prestige but still have an active lifestyle.

Following the successful introduction of the J7, JAECOO will expand its local lineup with the compact J5 crossover, due in South Africa in 2025. Equipped with all the features and high-quality materials the JAECOO brand is known for, the J5 crossover slots beneath the J7 within the JAECOO lineup, offering consumers a new entry point into the premium marque.

Like the larger J7, the J5 features a bold, assertive design combining modern styling cues with rugged touches. The prominent JAECOO grille flows seamlessly into the slim headlights, lending the vehicle plenty of presence. The generous ground clearance and subtly pronounced wheel arches underscore the J5’s adventurous personality. At the rear, an upmarket lightbar incorporates the taillights and ‘JAECOO’ nameplate, while the refined rear bumper integrates neatly with the bodywork.

Under the tastefully styled bodywork, an independent suspension setup can be found. This contributes to the smooth and supple ride quality—something appreciated when driving in town and on the long road. Other welcomed features include a best-in-class 13.2-inch touchscreen with integrated entertainment applications and smart navigation. The J5 is available with a 1.45 m² panoramic sunroof, the biggest in its class.

“The JAECOO J5 is designed for those who crave flair and individuality. With its innovative features, elegant design, and thoughtfully crafted accessories, it stands out from the crowd and encourages you to explore the world on your terms,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand & Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

Prepared for any adventure, the J5 comes with an impressive towing capacity of 1,250 kg and a roof rack that can carry up to 75 kg. Other features include camping lights, factory-installed hooks in the cargo area, and a charging port that can accommodate all the necessary accessories one might take camping or on outdoor trips.

A standout feature of the J5 is its emphasis on “human-pet travel,” prioritising a healthy and comfortable experience for four-legged companions. The interior includes specially extended seats designed with pets in mind, enhancing their comfort and safety.

Furthermore, JAECOO’s engineers have developed an air conditioning system with a powerful filtration system. It can isolate pet hair, maintaining a fresh and clean air supply to the cabin. The intelligent climate control system adjusts to occupant needs in real time, altering the temperature onboard at a moment’s notice. Other features aimed at pet owners include specially crafted boarding steps for smaller pets and a pet-feeding system.

The impending arrival of the J5 highlights JAECOO’s commitment to the South African market. “Introducing a more compact and competitively priced model will appeal to more consumers looking to join the JAECOO family,” concludes Gahagan.

JAECOO will reveal additional J5 details related to performance and pricing closer to the on-sale date. Local specification for the J5 has yet to be finalised.

OMODA C9’s award-winning design to shake up SA’s luxury SUV market

Posted on 08 Oct 2024 under Uncategorized

The striking new OMODA C9 is set to shake up South Africa’s luxury SUV market with its award-winning design, which combines exquisite exterior proportions and dynamic lines with a technology-filled yet user-centred cabin.

Having been presented with a Gold Award in the Automotive & Transport category at the prestigious International Design Awards (IDA), the OMODA C9 – which is known as the Exeed RX in some markets – became the first high-end vehicle from a Chinese brand to achieve this honour.

Founded in 2007, the IDA recognises and celebrates “exceptional design” across several categories, with the organisation’s highly respected jury comprising a carefully selected panel of industry experts. These jurors gave the C9 a Gold Award for its fresh approach to automotive aesthetics.

Distinct from all other luxury SUVs on the market, the soon-to-launch C9 features not only an eye-catching coupé-like silhouette – complete with a dramatically sloping fastback-style roofline – but also a design language influenced by the time-tested Golden Ratio principle and centred on the aesthetics of light, both inside and out.

The daytime running lights, for instance, were inspired by the Greek letter “Σ” and feature as many as 134 LED elements. The striking taillights exhibit a similarly artistic flair, while the luxurious cabin boasts a 256-colour ambient lighting system that allows occupants to customise the interior’s illumination according to their mood.

“A true masterpiece of automotive design, the new C9 will fittingly arrive as OMODA’s flagship model. Seamlessly integrating the principles of modern art with cutting-edge technology, the C9 is nothing short of an industry-leading design set to redefine the local SUV landscape,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

Further exterior design highlights include a borderless grille that incorporates distinctive diamond shapes, along with a neatly integrated rear spoiler, a quartet of tailpipes, flush exterior door handles and stylish alloy wheels. Inside, this game-changing SUV features plenty of passenger space, plus luxuries like a high-end audio system, a curved dual-screen set-up and top-notch materials.

More details of the OMODA C9’s lengthy standard specification list will be revealed at this spectacular new flagship model’s official market launch in South Africa in the near future.

OMODA and JAECOO soar to new heights on SA’s sales charts

Posted on 03 Oct 2024 under Uncategorized

The Chery Group division comprising the fast-growing OMODA and JAECOO marques – Brand O&J – soared to a new high on South Africa’s sales charts in September 2024, ranking inside the top 15 on the overall manufacturer standings for the very first time.

Based on figures reported to industry representative body naamsa, this latest placing of 15th position overall saw Brand O&J jump ahead of yet more long-established automakers from Europe and Japan, despite the fact that it’s still a relatively new entity in the country’s highly competitive new-vehicle market.

In addition, Brand O&J found itself on the very cusp of breaking into the top 10 of South Africa’s passenger-vehicle segment, having rocketed to an astonishing 11th place in this category in September.

While a substantial 28% of all registrations in South Africa’s passenger-vehicle segment last month came courtesy of sales to the rental industry, Brand O&J was one of the few automakers towards the top of the charts not dependent on this channel, with every single unit instead sold via its extensive dealership network.

“The success of our dealerships and the fact that we’ve not had to rely on other sales channels – be they the rental space, sales to government or industry corporate sales – proves just how strongly our OMODA and JAECOO products resonate with private buyers,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA and JAECOO South Africa.

Last month, the stylish OMODA C5 accounted for approximately 65% of Brand O&J’s local registrations, while the increasingly popular JAECOO J7 represented the remaining 35% of the overall total. The sustained success of these two products bodes exceptionally well for Brand O&J considering it has several new models in the pipeline for the local market.

For instance, the highly anticipated OMODA C9 will soon be launching in South Africa, positioning itself as the marque’s flagship SUV and marking the beginning of Brand O&J’s exciting next chapter on their road to success.

Functioning as an independent division within the Chery Group, OMODA AND JAECOO standalone dealer network continues to grow at a rapid pace, currently numbering more than 40 dedicated locations situated in key areas around the country.

As OMODA’s flagship model, the new C9 is set apart not only by its award-winning avant-garde exterior design and powerful engine but also by luxuries such as built-in seat massagers, a high-end audio system, a curved dual-screen set-up and top-notch cabin materials. OMODA & JAECOO the centre of attention at 2024 Festival of Motoring

Posted on 03 Sep 2024 under Uncategorized

Brand O&J – the Chery Group division comprising the OMODA and JAECOO marques – was the centre of attention at South Africa’s 2024 Festival of Motoring in Gauteng, reflecting its rapid rise up the local sales charts.

Held at the iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from 30 August to 1 September 2024, the largest industry-supported automotive show on the African continent provided the ideal setting to display the latest OMODA and JAECOO products.

For instance, the popular OMODA C5 was on hand to showcase its futuristic styling and cutting-edge technology, while the soon-to-launch OMODA C9 coupé-style flagship SUV likewise attracted plenty of attention thanks to its award-winning design and luxurious cabin.

In addition, the JAECOO J7 – a highly capable urban off-road SUV that, like the OMODA C5, is fast climbing the sales charts – continued to win the hearts of outdoor-loving South African motorists, while also turning heads with its modern yet classic design aesthetic.

Meanwhile, in an exciting preview of Brand O&J’s imminent expansion into the local new-energy vehicle space, the fully electric JAECOO J6 was introduced to South Africans, who were captivated by its retro-inspired exterior design, boxy proportions and surprisingly spacious interior.

Measuring 4 406 mm long, the new JAECOO J6 – which features a classic yet modern off-road look – is endowed with a generous 2 715 mm wheelbase that translates into a deceptively spacious interior. All-wheel-drive variants are equipped with a 70 kW electric motor up front and a 135 kW electric motor at the rear, resulting in a total system power output as high as 205 kW.

The 0-100 km/h sprint is thus seen off in a mere 6.5 seconds, while the single-charge range comes in at over 500 km, depending on the chosen battery configuration. Designed to handle various terrains with ease, the new model is equipped with as many as 9 driving modes. The J6 is scheduled to launch in SA in the opening quarter of 2025, kicking off Brand O&J’s new-energy journey, which will also include plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

“The fact that every single one of the vehicles we displayed at the Festival of Motoring drew huge interest from attendees speaks volumes for both the design and quality of our cars as well as the local market’s incredibly positive sentiment towards these fresh brands,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

“In short, Brand O&J has quickly become a force that simply cannot be ignored in South Africa’s highly competitive automotive market. And, of course there’s plenty more to come,” added Gahagan.

While the C9 and J6 – along with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the J7 – are next on the cards for South Africa, development of new OMODA and JAECOO models continues apace overseas. For instance, extreme high-temperature testing of the freshly revealed OMODA C7 was recently completed in China, while teaser images and official design sketches of the exciting new JAECOO J5 were revealed ahead of this all-new model’s upcoming unveiling.

Since Brand O&J’s global launch in 2023, the company has attracted as many as 300 000 sales worldwide (up until the end July 2024), expanding into more than 40 countries and opening in excess of 875 showrooms around the world. This is a clear illustration of OMODA and JAECOO’s vision of together growing into one of the strongest brands globally.

That vision includes Europe. In February 2024, Brand O&J became the first Chery Group division to officially enter the European market, holding a celebratory event in Madrid, Spain. Around two months later, the President of Spain joined the President of Chery International to witness the inauguration of Brand O&J’s first EU factory. This makes Brand O&J the first Chinese automaker to set up a production plant in Europe, further demonstrating its determination to continue building only the highest-quality products.

Meanwhile, in mid-October, OMODA and JAECOO will join hands with individuals from more than 40 countries around the world to hold the 2024 International User Ecological Co-creation Conference at the brand’s headquarters. This ground-breaking event will explore the future of ecological travel as part of the brand’s philosophy of “More Than Cars”.

OMODA celebrates the role of women in automotive this Women’s Month

Posted on 29 Aug 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA pays tribute to the crucial role that women play in South Africa’s broader automotive space this Women’s Month, while also highlighting the contributions made by the many female individuals involved with the success of the fast-growing brand.

While National Women’s Day is celebrated on 9 August – commemorating the 1956 march of more than 20 000 women to the Union Buildings – Women’s Month provides an extended opportunity to consider the empowerment of females and the importance of gender equality.

“At OMODA, we’re strong advocates for the empowerment of women in general, a fact that’s clear from the number of partnerships we have forged with female personalities. In addition, it’s worth noting that my entire – highly talented – marketing team is female,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

Gahagan herself is well known in the automotive industry for both her marketing acumen and incredible work ethic, and has been instrumental in the recent rapid growth of Brand O&J – the Chery Group division comprising the OMODA and JAECOO marques – in South Africa.

Despite the country’s highly competitive automotive space still being largely dominated by men, Gahagan has rapidly risen to prominence, thanks to her understanding of and insight into consumer behaviour. She is also the driving force behind OMODA’s partnerships with several high-profile female personalities.

For instance, both award-winning DJ Zinhle and likewise multi-talented Boitumelo Thulo (better known as Boity) officially joined the OMODA family earlier this year in wide-ranging collaborations. The brand has also since partnered with Thandokazi P Mashalaba, a well-known digital content creator.

In addition, highly acclaimed fashion designer Khosi Nkosi recently collaborated with OMODA to create a breath-taking series of vehicle-wrap designs to celebrate the innovative brand’s first birthday in Mzansi, while reality television star and presenter Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco also has a relationship with the brand.

“While Women’s Month helps to draw attention to the many challenges that women in South Africa still face today, it’s also an opportunity to celebrate their strength and resilience as well as their invaluable contributions in all spheres, including the automotive industry. So, here’s to the women of South Africa and the women of O-Club,” said Gahagan.

Brand O&J – the fast-growing Chery Group division comprising the OMODA and JAECOO marques – is rapidly expanding into the global new-energy vehicle space. Equipped with a fully electric powertrain, the rugged new J6 is the next step in this forward-thinking strategy.

Featuring a retro-inspired exterior design and boxy proportions, the five-seater JAECOO J6 is deceptively spacious inside, with the versatile cabin furthermore featuring a plethora of clever storage spaces. In terms of driving dynamics, the SUV is both comfortable in the city and highly capable off the beaten path.

The new J6 thus fits in perfectly with JAECOO’s already established position as an innovative urban off-road SUV brand. Like its siblings, it’s tougher than a typical crossover but more comfortable than a traditional off-roader, and will help to further a new urban off-roading trend started by the J7.

“Although we’re preparing to launch a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version of the J7 – which will push the brand into the local new-energy vehicle space – the upcoming J6 represents the next step for our growing line-up as it’s set to arrive as the first fully electric model to wear the JAECOO badge,” added Gahagan.

Having launched in South Africa as recently as April 2024, JAECOO’s first model, the J7, has taken the local market by storm. In July, local registrations of the sleekly styled urban off-road contender saw JAECOO climb to an impressive 26th position on the list of 54 automotive makes reporting new-vehicle sales figures to industry representative body naamsa. The upcoming arrivals of new models such as the J6 will help the brand grow even further.

More details of the new JAECOO J6 will be announced at the vehicle’s official local unveiling at the Festival of Motoring in Gauteng, with a South African market launch planned for 2025.

Fastest-growing Brand O&J helps Chery crack Fortune Global 500

Posted on 16 Aug 2024 under Uncategorized

As the fastest-growing automotive brand globally, the remarkable performance of Brand O&J – the Chery Group division comprising the OMODA and JAECOO marques – has helped its parent company crack the prestigious 2024 Fortune Global 500 list.

Based on its latest financial results, the Chery Holding Group featured on the 2024 Fortune Global 500 list, ranking in an impressive 385th position. As Brand O&J, both OMODA and JAECOO have played a crucial role in Chery’s latest global growth, together contributing a considerable 20.8% to the group’s total export volume.

Though both OMODA and JAECOO are still new entities in the highly competitive global new-vehicle market, cumulative worldwide sales have already exceeded 280 000 units, positioning Brand O&J as the fastest-growing automotive brand globally. It’s a similar case in South Africa, where Brand O&J is one of, if not the, fastest-growing new entrant to the market.

This local growth is expected to accelerate further as Brand O&J expands its line-up in the coming months, with the luxurious OMODA C9 flagship model set to hit the market in South Africa soon. JAECOO, meanwhile, is gearing up to welcome not only the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the J7 and the J8 but also the exciting new fully electric J6.

“South Africa continues to play a key role in Brand O&J’s phenomenal global success. As such, we’ll use the upcoming 2024 Festival of Motoring to showcase not only popular existing products such as the OMODA C5 and JAECOO J7 but also all-new models that will be coming to the local market in the near future,” revealed Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

“So, make sure to head on down to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from 30 August 2024 for the Festival of Motoring – the largest industry-supported auto show on the African continent – to catch your first glimpse of the exciting new Brand O&J vehicles being lined up for South Africa.”

Meanwhile, the freshly revealed OMODA C7 is about to enter extreme high-temperature testing in Turpan, China, which is known as one of the most thermally demanding environments in the world. Focused on critical parameters for summer driving, this comprehensive testing cycle is the latest demonstration of Brand O&J’s understanding of South African conditions, helping the company to develop vehicles suitable to the country’s sometimes harsh climate.

JAECOO is the proud official vehicle partner for EFC

Posted on 08 Aug 2024 under Uncategorized

JAECOO is pleased to announce its association with EFC as the official vehicle partner of Africa’s premier mixed martial arts (MMA) organisation.

As one of the fastest-growing entrants to South Africa’s new-vehicle market, JAECOO is a unique urban off-road SUV brand, with its debut model, the sleekly styled J7, offering outdoor-loving customers more toughness than a typical urban SUV yet more comfort and technology than traditional off-roaders.

“At JAECOO, we have a saying: ‘fearless salutes fearless’. This exciting new partnership with EFC is the embodiment of that maxim and lines up perfectly with our growing brand’s unwavering pursuit of adventure,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

Established in 2009 in South Africa, EFC provides athletes with a world-class platform to unleash their full potential and showcase their prowess on a global stage. The action-packed competition is filled with thrilling head-to-head battles and fosters lofty levels of excitement, mirroring JAECOO’s entry to the highly competitive local new-vehicle market earlier this year.

“We are proud to officially partner with JAECOO, a new and exciting vehicle brand that is set to take the world by storm. Like EFC, JAECOO is here to challenge the status quo, and take on the traditional ‘big players’ in the industry by offering the best possible product and quality,” said EFC President Cairo Howarth.

EFC events take place in South Africa, but bouts are broadcast to over 120 countries around the world. As the new official vehicle partner to the organisation, JAECOO has provided J7 vehicles to various EFC title-match competitors, allowing them – just like JAECOO brand ambassador Senzo Radebe and countless satisfied customers around the country – to arrive at show venues in comfort and style.

Since the MMA organisation’s inception, all EFC events have been overseen by dedicated doctors, who are assisted by an on-site emergency medical team, while every athlete undergoes various medical tests before their match. This pioneering approach, along with the adherence to an extensive list of international unified rules, reflects EFC’s commitment to making the sport safer, an outlook that is wholly in line with JAECOO’s stance on vehicle safety.

“The JAECOO J7 is constructed according to global 5-star safety standards and comes packed with standard safety features and driver-assistance technology. So, just like EFC and its athletes, we believe in both working hard and playing hard, but still keeping safety firmly in mind. This, then, is our ringside salute, from one fearless organisation to another,” concluded Gahagan.

Look out for JAECOO’s presence at the next EFC event on 8 August 2024.

JAECOO J7 continues phenomenal sales start in South Africa

Posted on 06 Aug 2024 under Uncategorized

Fresh-faced urban off-road SUV brand JAECOO continues to find favour among South Africa’s discerning new-vehicle buyers, with the sophisticated new J7 growing its sales tally even further in July 2024.

Having launched as recently as April 2024, the J7 – a highly capable SUV with a modern yet classic design aesthetic but priced from just R549 900 – has taken the local market by storm. In July, local registrations of this sleekly styled urban off-road contender saw JAECOO climb to an impressive 26th position on the list of 54 automotive makes reporting new-vehicle sales figures to industry representative body Naamsa.

That meant JAECOO ranked well ahead of several legacy brands, each of which currently employs a significantly broader model range. It’s a particularly spectacular feat considering JAECOO’s new-to-market portfolio at the moment comprises only the three-strong J7 line-up, with the J7 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and the highly anticipated flagship J8 scheduled for introduction (with the J6 next on the list).

According to naamsa, South Africa’s domestic new-vehicle sales in July 2024 came in at 44 229 units, reflecting an encouraging 1.5% year-on-year increase. The JAECOO J7 was part of the passenger-vehicle segment that drove this growth last month, with registrations in this sector increasing 6.8% year on year to 29 934 units.

However, unlike many rivals that relied on sales to the vehicle-rental industry in July (a sector that accounted for a considerable 17.1% of new passenger-vehicle sales last month), every single one of JAECOO J7’s registrations came directly via the dealer channel, which is a strong indicator of private-buyer sentiment.

“The importance of South Africa to JAECOO’s global ambitions is clear from the fact that our country was the first right-hand-drive market in the world to receive the new J7 as well as the very first overall in Africa. Judging by JAECOO’s astounding start in South Africa, this confidence is extremely well-placed. We simply can’t wait to bring the next chapter in this growing success story,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

OMODA supports SA athletes with clever #PassTheTorch campaign

Posted on 05 Aug 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA South Africa has launched a clever new #PassTheTorch social-media campaign in support of local athletes currently competing in France at one of the world’s largest sporting events.

The unique online initiative calls for OMODA brand ambassadors, as well as OMODA O-CLUB friends and influencers, to pass between them a flame-themed OMODA C5 vehicle. Featuring an eye-catching orange-and-black wrap, this special car was revealed at the fast-growing brand’s recent “Breakfast Run” event in Gauteng, where it formed part of a convoy comprising more than 100 cars.

Under the #PassTheTorch campaign, each personality will be given a specific task to tackle. Once their assignment is complete, they will post photographs or videos on social media, showing themselves dressed in a suitably stylish outfit alongside the car in question. From there, they will publicly challenge another personality, effectively “passing the torch” to the next participant.

OMODA South Africa officially kicked off the campaign by challenging Thandokazi P Mashalaba – a popular digital content creator who focuses on beauty, hair, fashion and lifestyle – to undertake a vigorous 20-minute treadmill session while dressed in her most fashionable athleisure wear.

Job done, Thando passed the torch to Chantel Hoffman, challenging the content creator and socialite – who also happens to be a proud OMODA C5 owner – to a 20-minute power walk, which she duly completed at an athletics track dressed in an outfit that perfectly matched the flame-themed C5.

After Hoffman, the torch will be passed to other OMODA ambassadors such as Boitumelo “Boity” Thulo, TV personality, Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco, and internet personality Mohale Motaung, as well as various other O-CLUB friends and influencers, such as customer Palesa Dhlomo and finally Sphe_Music. Having commenced on 26 July 2024, the campaign will run until the closing of the international multi-sport tournament on 11 August 2024.

“We simply couldn’t resist showing our support to the South African athletes in our own fun and fashionable way,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

“But the games will continue even when the #PassTheTorch campaign is complete, as OMODA dealers around the country will have the opportunity to grab the torch, too. So, keep your eyes peeled for this special model, which could soon be coming to a shopping mall near you,” concluded Gahagan.

KHOSI NKOSI PARTNERS WITH OMODA TO CREATE STUNNING CAR-WRAP DESIGNS

Posted on 18 Jul 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA South Africa is delighted to announce an exciting new collaboration with highly acclaimed fashion brand Khosi Nkosi, a partnership that has given rise to a breath-taking series of vehicle-wrap designs to celebrate this innovative automaker’s first birthday in Mzansi.

Founded in 2008 and known for its vibrant, contemporary designs that honour African heritage and culture, the Khosi Nkosi brand was the ideal creative partner for OMODA’s latest campaign, which adopts the #ArtInMotion tagline (a name shared with the company’s avant-garde design philosophy).

The collaboration sees the Khosi Nkosi fashion house’s unmistakable designs applied to the sleek contours of the OMODA C5, a futuristically styled premium crossover with an instantly recognisable silhouette and several striking design details. Three spectacular vehicle-wrap motifs have been created, each in its own way embodying OMODA’s commitment to celebrating cultural diversity through design.

The first design is named “Thando”, the epitome of love; the second is known as “Unathi”, a reflection of our togetherness; and the third is titled “Nkosazane”, an African princess. Fans of the OMODA brand have the opportunity to vote for their favourite design – ultimately helping to decide which one comes to life – and even submit their own versions for a chance to have them featured alongside Khosi Nkosi’s vibrant work.

“We believe this collaboration will resonate deeply with South Africans who appreciate fashion as a form of self-expression, tying in neatly with OMODA’s focus on a modern, fashionable lifestyle. The Khosi Nkosi brand continues to earn both local and international acclaim, aligning perfectly with the trajectory of our brand, which is fast climbing the ranks in South Africa’s new-vehicle market and abroad,” said Lungelo Zwane, Marketing Specialist for OMODA.

Just as Khosi Nkosi seamlessly blends traditional African elements with contemporary fashion trends, OMODA harmoniously combines automotive artistry with modern engineering and cutting-edge technology.

The artistry came to life on Saturday 13th July when local members of the OMODA O-CLUB – the brand’s exclusive fan community of OMODERs – had the chance to experience the fusion firsthand during a unique “Breakfast Run” event at which the winning design was publicly revealed. Over 140 people – including influencers such as DJ Zinhle, Thandokazi Mashalaba and Mohale – joined an impressive convoy of more than 100 cars.

“The turnout of both OMODA fans and cars thoroughly exceeded our expectations. It’s extremely encouraging to see this young brand continue to flourish in South Africa,” concluded Lungelo.

OMODA STUNS AS OFFICIAL VEHICLE PARTNER OF HOLLYWOODBETS DURBAN JULY

Posted on 10 Jul 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA South Africa showcased its wares as the official vehicle partner of the prestigious Hollywoodbets Durban July in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend, captivating the event’s glamourous attendees with both its futuristically designed stands and its distinctively styled vehicles.

Race 2 of South Africa’s premier horseracing event – which dates all the way back to 1897 and is held annually on the first Saturday of July at Greyville Racecourse in Durban – was named in honour of the fast-growing automotive brand. Won by DIANI just after midday, the 1400-metre race was officially dubbed the “OMODA MR 96 Handicap”.

Of course, the Hollywoodbets Durban July is not just about the horses. In fact, this storied equestrian event long ago also became one of the most highly regarded fashion and entertainment extravaganzas on the local celebrity calendar, aligning perfectly with the OMODA brand. Not only do the scores of high-profile guests arrive dressed to the nines, but several spectacular fashion shows run throughout the day.

“As is clearly evident from OMODA’s avant-garde design philosophy – which integrates elements of both minimalism and futurism – fashion and style are key pillars of our brand. That made OMODA the ideal official vehicle partner for the Hollywoodbets Durban July, allowing us to speak directly to our ever-growing audience,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

At the event, OMODA displayed both the strikingly styled C5 – which is now also available in a competitively priced Style specification, named in honour of the sense of fresh fashion inherent to the OMODA O-CLUB, the brand’s exclusive fan community – and the new C9 flagship. Set to hit the market in South Africa soon, the latter model features a distinctly coupé-like shape and, like the popular C5, is filled to the brim with high-end technology.

Taking direct inspiration from the C5 and C9, OMODA’s purpose-built stands at the Hollywoodbets Durban July were futuristically styled and technologically advanced, drawing celebrity visitors such as Mohale Motaung and Boity Thulo. Highlights included giant high-resolution screens, eye-catching LED furniture and even OMODA’s remarkable robot dog, which stole the spotlight with its incredibly realistic canine-like mannerisms.

OMODA & JAECOO PARTNER WITH ABSA FOR VEHICLE FINANCE

Posted on 08 Jul 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA & JAECOO are pleased to announce a new partnership with Absa, a collaboration aimed at providing South African new-car buyers with fuss-free vehicle finance solutions.

At the start of June 2024, the fast-growing automotive marques – which are together known as Brand O&J – entered into a vehicle-finance alliance agreement with what is one of Africa’s largest diversified financial services groups. As such, OMODA JAECOO Finance, a product of Absa, was born.

“We’re incredibly excited to announce this partnership with Absa, a highly respected financial institution that we believe is fast becoming the bank of choice in the automotive industry,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

“The comprehensive financing options that result from this partnership will help to make our already very attractively priced vehicles even more accessible for local customers. As such, fans of Brand O&J should keep their eyes peeled for exciting credit offers in the near future,” Gahagan added.

Brand O&J has already made a strong impression on the local market. In April 2023, South Africa became the first country on the African continent to welcome the OMODA brand, with the C5’s unique silhouette immediately standing out in a market saturated with generic crossover shapes. The limited-edition C5 GT was added to the line-up in November of that year.

Later in 2024, the OMODA range will grow with the arrival of the highly anticipated C9 luxury flagship as well as the fully electric E5, while the new C7 is also on the cards for a local introduction at some point further down the line.

“This partnership is testament to our commitment to driving innovation and accessibility in the automotive financing sector,” said Charl Potgieter, Managing Executive at Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance. “By collaborating with OMODA & JAECOO we are ensuring that customers can experience a seamless and efficient financing process, reinforcing Absa’s position as the bank of the automotive industry. Our goal is to help South Africans realise their dreams of vehicle ownership with unmatched convenience and service excellence.”

Meanwhile, newly established urban off-road SUV brand JAECOO launched its first model in the country as recently as April 2024, with the J7 immediately taking the market by storm. It’s worth noting that South Africa was both the first right-hand-drive market to launch the J7 as well as the very first in Africa.

In addition to the three-strong J7 line-up, the JAECOO portfolio is poised to welcome further models in the coming months. Local customers can expect to see the J8 PHEV arrive later in 2024, with the new J6 likewise in the planning for a local introduction. More details on these models will be released closer to their respective arrivals.

NEW OMODA C5 STYLE: AN EVEN MORE AFFORDABLE OPTION FOR SA

Posted on 24 Jun 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA South Africa has launched an exciting new entry-level version of the popular C5 crossover, a move that makes the fast-growing brand even more accessible to South African new-car buyers

Priced at just R359 900, the arrival of the new C5 Style serves to lower the line-up’s starting price by a considerable R88 000. Despite slotting in at the foot of the range, the new C5 Style – which looks exactly like the C5 Tech from the exterior, while also welcoming a fresh Bloodstone Red hue to the colour palette – is anything but sparsely equipped

For instance, it’s powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine as the rest of the line-up (bar the C5 GT, which offers even more performance), delivering generous peak outputs of 115 kW and 230 Nm to the front wheels courtesy of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with manual-shifting capabilities.

Despite its enticing price tag, the C5 Style’s list of standard features is lengthy and includes a leather-trimmed steering wheel, front sports seats, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen system (complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), a six-speaker sound system, a reversing camera, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, automatic LED headlights and stylish 17-inch alloy wheels.

Meanwhile, safety is comprehensively covered by items such as ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, tyre-pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors, an electric parking brake, outer-rear ISOfix child-seat anchors, four airbags and seatbelt reminders for both the driver and front passenger.

“While the C5 range was competitively priced right from the outset, we believe this smartly specified new Style derivative will help us to welcome even more customers into the OMODA family. In addition, we’ll be offering this entry-level model with an attractive finance deal through our new vehicle-finance alliance partner Absa, so keep your eyes peeled for details on that front,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

Just like the rest of the popular OMODA C5 range, the new C5 Style ships standard with a 2-year/30 000 km service plan as well as a lengthy 5-year/150 000 km factory warranty, plus Roadside Assist for 5 years. The engine, meanwhile, is covered by an industry-leading 10-year/1-million km warranty, which is linked to the vehicle’s first owner.

OMODA & JAECOO continue to grow both locally and worldwide, with global export sales having exceeded 20 000 units in May 2024. This trend looks set to continue as Brand O&J has officially started entering various markets in the European Union.

JAECOO climbs SA’s sales charts after just over two weeks on the market

Posted on 24 Jun 2024 under Uncategorized

Newly established urban off-road SUV brand JAECOO rocketed into the top 30 of South Africa’s best-selling automotive brands in April 2024, despite having launched its very first model midway through the month.

Though the new J7 was officially on the market from only 13 April, initial sales were high enough to see JAECOO place a phenomenal 28th out of the 54 automotive brands currently offered in South Africa’s new-vehicle market.

JAECOO’s inspiring performance – along with that of sister brand OMODA, which has just celebrated its first year in South Africa – helped the Chery Group secure its highest-ever monthly sales total of 2,009 units, which in turn resulted in a record 6th place on the overall manufacturer standings for the month and 4th position in the passenger-vehicle segment.

“Even though the J7 has only just arrived on the local market, it’s clear South Africans are excited by what this new model – not to mention the JAECOO brand as a whole, with its ‘From Classic, Beyond Classic’ philosophy – has to offer. In the end, the J7 accounted for a strong 7.4% of Chery’s record total for the month,” said Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager Chery/OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

While the three-strong J7 line-up – priced from just R549 900 and including a range-topping Inferno derivative equipped with all-wheel drive and as many as 7 driving modes – has given JAECOO a particularly robust start in South Africa, the local line-up is poised to welcome further models in the coming months.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the J7’s sales performance in what was a partial month for a new-to-market model. Though we’ve only just launched JAECOO in South Africa – with the country becoming both the first right-hand-drive market to offer this model as well as the first in Africa – we have big plans for this forward-thinking brand, including on the new-energy vehicle front,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

For instance, customers can expect to welcome the J8 PHEV, with the new J6 likewise in the planning for a local introduction. More details on these models will be released closer to their respective arrivals.

OMODA MARKS ONE YEAR IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH STRONG SALES PERFORMANCE

Posted on 15 May 2024 under Uncategorized

OMODA marked a highly successful first year in South Africa with a strong sales performance in April 2024, outselling several long-established brands in the process.

Reporting sales figures to industry representative body Naamsa for the first time since officially hitting the road in South Africa a year ago, OMODA’s final tally accounted for a healthy 12.8% of the Chery Group’s record 2 009 total registrations for the month.

“In April 2024, the Chery Group registered its highest-ever sales figures in South Africa, securing 6th place on the overall manufacturer standings for the month and 4th in the passenger-vehicle segment. OMODA, which functions as an independent brand within the Chery Group, played a key role in this record-breaking performance,” said Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager Chery/OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

When considering individual brands as opposed to manufacturers, OMODA placed a highly respectable 19th out of the 54 marques currently operating in South Africa’s new-vehicle market, with this young premium brand thus ranking ahead of several mainstream automakers hailing from Japan and Europe.

“As we celebrate our first birthday in South Africa, we’re thrilled with the market’s response to our fast-growing brand. Every single one of OMODA’s local sales in April came via the dealer channel, which – as opposed to bulk fleet sales – is considered a strong indicator of private-buyer sentiment. In short, each sale is another vote of confidence in our brand,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

The achievement is all the more impressive when one considers that OMODA’s local range currently comprises only the six-strong C5 line-up, including the limited-edition GT derivative.

A year ago, South Africa became the first country on the African continent to welcome the OMODA brand, with the C5’s unique silhouette immediately standing out in a market saturated with generic crossover shapes.

Later in 2024, the OMODA range will grow with the arrival of the highly anticipated C9 luxury flagship as well as the fully electric E5, while the recently revealed C7 is also on the cards for a local introduction further down the line.

New JAECOO J7 officially launches in South Africa

Posted on 12 Apr 2024 under Uncategorized

The highly anticipated JAECOO J7 has officially launched in South Africa, hitting the market as the very first model from the newly established urban off-road SUV brand. Endowed with cutting-edge design and forward-thinking technologies, the J7 is poised to take the local market by storm, with the three-strong range priced from just R549 900.

Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager Chery / OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, says the new J7 perfectly embodies the brand’s “From Classic, Beyond Classic” philosophy and is as such the ideal model to introduce the innovative new marque to the country. In addition, South Africa is both the first right-hand-drive market to launch the J7 as well as the first in Africa.

“As South Africa’s first taste of JAECOO, the new J7 has an important role to play. Boasting high levels of sophistication and performance – not to mention a modern yet classic design aesthetic – the J7 will appeal to customers who love the great outdoors but are not prepared to compromise on either comfort or standard specification,” Liu said.

All three derivatives in the J7 range are powered by an efficient turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine producing generous peak outputs of 145 kW and 290 Nm, and mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard. In the case of the base Vortex and mid-spec Glacier variants, drive is delivered to the front axle, while the range-topping Inferno features all-wheel drive, incorporating the brand’s advanced new All Road Drive Intelligent System (ARDIS).

The inclusion of ARDIS in the Inferno derivative completely redefines the off-road driving experience, allowing effortless navigation through mud, sand and several other types of terrain. This means drivers – who furthermore benefit from a 21° approach angle, a 29° departure angle, 200 mm of ground clearance and 600 mm of wading depth – needn’t worry about encountering varied surfaces.

The proprietary ARDIS intelligent off-roading system includes as many as 7 driving modes, allowing the JAECOO J7 to adapt to a wide variety of surfaces by dynamically adjusting the vehicle’s responses in real time. So, whether navigating urban streets or muddy terrain, the system handles each driving scenario with finesse and capability.

Specification levels are extremely generous across the line-up. Belying its entry-level positioning, for example, the Vortex grade includes items such as power-adjustable front seats, an electric tailgate, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a 360° panoramic camera system, wireless smartphone charging, 18-inch alloy wheels (framing red brake callipers), LED headlamps, front foglamps, automatic windscreen wipers, 7 airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), front radar and several added safety features.

Meanwhile, the mid-tier Glacier model (R599 900) upgrades to 19-inch alloys and a 14.8-inch touchscreen, while also gaining items such as innovative inter-seat airbags, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats (with a memory function), a head-up display, an integrated dashcam and a raft of extra driver-assistance features. The latter includes items such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, lane-departure warning, intelligent high-beam control, rear cross-traffic assist and more.

Finally, the flagship all-wheel-drive Inferno (R679 900) ships with the aforementioned ARDIS system, along with extras such as a heating function for the leather-trimmed steering wheel as well as privacy glass.

Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa predicts that the J7 will spark a new urban off-roading trend among local buyers.

“The JAECOO J7 offers outdoor-loving customers something entirely new: far more toughness than a typical urban SUV but also more comfort and technology than traditional off-roaders. Add lofty levels of standard specification, a potent powertrain and highly competitive pricing, and you can see why we believe the J7 will take the local market by storm,” said Gahagan.

The J7 was launched in South Africa on 12 April 2024 at St John’s College in Johannesburg. After the day’s activities, invited guests – including brand ambassadors such as actor Senzo Radebe – attended an event hosted by MC Anele Mdoda. Thanks to an exclusive pre-launch drive of the J7, Anele was ideally positioned to play host, having been one of the very first people in South Africa to experience this exciting new vehicle from behind the wheel.

Later, JAECOO guests were treated to a music festival that included entertainment from DJ Mörda (aka Murdah Bongz), who had the crowd on its feet with his mesmerising dance moves and captivating stage presence.

Earlier, Khavhagali Vhalinavho from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) presented a talk on environmental protection. Liu explained that this topic is a key part of JAECOO’s broader sustainability vision.

“Right from the conception of the JAECOO brand, we knew we wanted to create a more environmentally friendly off-road experience than is typical, providing the urban elite with not only a more comfortable but also a greener travel adventure. The protection of the great outdoors is important to our customers, so it’s important to us. That’s why we’ve chosen to partner with IUCN,” concludes Liu.

JAECOO J7 impresses at first drive event

Posted on 21 Mar 2024 under Uncategorized

Gauteng’s Lion & Safari Park played host to the first-drive impression of JAECOO’s new high-end off-road SUV, the J7, ahead of its official market launch in South Africa. The event was attended by media personalities such as Mohale Motaung and former Mrs SA and Survivor SA contestant, Nicole Capper.

Equipped with the advanced new All Road Drive Intelligent System (ARDIS) and boasting as many as seven driving modes, the top-spec Inferno derivative performed admirably during the day’s off-road safari drive. The 200 mm ground clearance, 21° approach angle, 29° departure angle and 600 mm wading depth enabled drivers to easily traverse the varied terrain.

Guests also had the opportunity to sample the front-wheel-drive Vortex and Glacier derivatives, which showed their mettle during the on-road part of the test, each delivering a smooth driving experience.

All J7 derivatives come equipped with a high-performance 1.6TGDI engine, producing a maximum power of 145 kW and peak torque of 290 Nm, figures that are comparable to luxury brands’ 2.0T models. JAECOO takes to the road

Posted on 01 Mar 2024 under Uncategorized

JAECOO is ready to make its debut and has kick-started its launch season with the first batch of J7 commercial vehicles having already arrived in South Africa.

Recently, OMODA & JAECOO hosted an investment conference for dealers and investors in Kwa-Zulu Natal where the brand presented the exciting JAECOO products and its offering to South African automotive dealers. Brand OMODA & JAECOO also shared the design and engineering philosophy of the JAECOO and gave dealers and investors a glimpse into the future of this brand.

“We were overwhelmed by the interest in OMODA and JAECOO, the two brands under Brand O&J. Both brands will be sold from one combined premises, but will each offer a completely unique value proposition, design philosophy and application,” says Tony Liu, Deputy General Manager of OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

JAECOO will join OMODA in a series of world-class showrooms across South Africa.

At present, there are 32 showrooms across the country that offers best-in-class sales, service, support and maintenance services. The stores, which are listed at the end of this release, include 14 flagship stores, such as the imposing OMODA & JAECOO Bryanston store and the OMODA & JAECOO showroom in Cape Town.

The current expansion plan will add 6 dealers in the coming weeks for a network of 40 dealers at the time of launch.

“There are a number of prime locations available to new investors and dealers looking to expand their offering to include OMODA and JAECOO. Some of these locations are earmarked for flagship stores, which means that they will also include a range of additional services, such as scratch and dent repair and vehicle detailing,” says Liu.

“Any dealer or prospective investor is welcome to contact us to learn more about the brand and our future range of products.”

JAECOO will officially launch in April and the vehicle can already be seen by the public in Cape Town at the Table Bay Mall from the 26th of February until the 4th of March. This will be the first time that the JAECOO J7 will be displayed to the public.

The J7 was first shown at last year’s Shanghai Auto Show in China where it wowed visitors from around the world, including South Africa.

The vehicle is designed and built for customers who like the great outdoors, but do not want to compromise on comfort and specifications. This is perfectly encapsulated in the brand theme: “From Classic, Beyond Classic”.

The J7 is fitted with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 145 kW and 290 Nm of torque to all four wheels. Power is transferred to the AWD system through a modern 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with self-shifting capabilities. The 7DCT wet dual-clutch transmission, once honoured as one of the “Top Ten Transmissions Globally,” boasts a transmission efficiency of up to 98%, exceeding the average level of its class. With a shift response time of 0.2s, the J7 achieves smooth and seamless control across all speed ranges.

As has become the norm with the OMODA C5 and C5 GT, the JAECOO J7 offers a comprehensive range of luxuries and standard features. This includes adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a fully digital cockpit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a new intelligent camera array that not only shows the vehicle’s surroundings but uses artificial intelligence to remove the vehicle from the picture and show the ground beneath the vehicle – all based on an 8155 microchip.

The South African JAECOO roadshow is the next in a series of roadshows and customer experience events that have been held across the world.

In Malaysia, JAECOO hosted customers, dealers and investors at the famous M4TREC Off-Road circuit where customers, clients and investors could put the all-wheel drive JAECOO J7 and the flagship J8 through their paces.

The track was upgraded for this event to best showcase the JAECOO ARDIS (All Road Drive Intelligent System) which adapts its off-road, engine and safety systems to the specific road or off-road conditions.

Similar customer and investor events were held in Saudi Arabia and Mexico, with more planned in the near future.

On local soil, JAECOO South Africa will be hosting a few lucky customers and media for a first drive of the J7 in March and showcasing the capabilities of the vehicle on and off-road. Additionally, the public can experience the J7 in person through early test drives that will become available at JAECOO dealerships throughout the country.

“There is no doubt that South Africa is an important region for the Brand O&J Group if you consider the fact that we are hosting investors and clients at the same time as other major markets such as China, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

“Our dealer partners can rest assured that they will receive the best service from our head office and that they will have a profitable and long-lasting relationship with JAECOO and OMODA,” says Liu.

Dealer network

There are currently 30 dealerships in the main metros, including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Gqerberha, East London, Emalahleni, Polokwane, and Tshwane.

Flagship OMODA & JAECOO stores can be found in Johannesburg, including Omoda Bryanston, Omoda Sandton, Omoda Boskburg, Omoda Gordon Road, Omoda Roodepoort with two more flagships in Cape Town, and several more planned in the near future.

OMODA C5 EARNS ITS SPOT AS A FINALIST IN THE 2024 SOUTH AFRICA CAR OF THE YEAR!

Posted on 23 Feb 2024 under Uncategorized

The brand, which is yet to celebrate its first birthday on local soil, was selected as a finalist in the 2024 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition. The OMODA C5 will compete in the Compact Family category.

“We are thrilled with the announcement that the OMODA C5 is a Car of the Year finalist. It gives us as a very young brand the opportunity to show South Africans what many journalists and customers have already found out: that the OMODA brand offers a full house of features, performance and design at a very competitive price,” says Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager OMODA & JAECOO.

The SA Guild of Mobility Journalists’ decision to pick the OMODA C5 in the Compact Family category supports Gahagan’s statement.

The OMODA C5 is available from R447 900 and offers significantly more performance from its 115-kW turbo-petrol engine than other contenders in the category. It is also unique in its offer of a full digital cabin with dual 10.25” screens, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Intelligent Voice Commands across the range.

“The OMODA brand was created from a clean sheet, giving the designers and engineers free reign to create a vehicle with no comparison. This is not only true for its unique design – created from our design language of Art in Motion – but also in our decision to include a host of luxury and safety features, across the entire range, regardless of the price,” says Gahagan.

This decision by OMODA to start from a clean slate and offer unmatched luxuries, performance and design features have surely informed the SA Guild’s decision to pick the OMODA C5 for the SA COTY competition.

For instance, every OMODA, regardless of price, has six airbags, ABS, and electronic stability control (ESP) and standard features such as dual-zone climate control, sport seats, wireless charging and passive-entry-passive-start (PEPS).

The clean slate approach also applies to the mechanical structure and engine of the OMODA C5. The OMODA T1X-platform uses ultra-high tensile steel to create a rigid platform and safety cell. This has earned the OMODA C5 a full five-star safety rating in Europe (Euro NCAP) and Asia (ASIAN and Australian NCAP) and gives it a surefooted on-road performance that is also unmatched it the Compact Family category.

The OMODA C5 is no stranger to competitions such as the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists Car of the Year competition. The model was picked as the 2022 Most Technologically Advanced SUV in Qatar and was selected as Mexico’s Car of the Year and Best Midsized Crossover as selected by Auto show.

While the OMODA C5 has been selected as a SA COTY finalist, it is only one of the models on offer by OMODA South Africa. The brand has recently added a high-performance OMODA C5 GT to the range and it has confirmed that the luxury flagship OMODA C9 and the all-electric OMODA E5 are slated for local introduction in 2024.

As a brand that is less than a year old in the country, the reception to the OMODA vehicles has been well received by South Africans.

OMODA A SEMI-FINALIST IN THE SAGMJ COTY!

Posted on 27 Dec 2023 under Uncategorized

The OMODA C5 is a semi-finalist in the 2023/24 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition.

That’s right! One of South Africa’s youngest vehicle brands has been picked as a contender in this esteemed competition by some of the best South African automotive and mobility journalists.

OMODA received the nod from the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) for its OMODA C5, its current flagship range and the model that has defined the OMODA brand in South Africa.

“When we decided to introduce the OMODA brand to South Africa, we specifically picked the OMODA C5 to be our first model.

“This model is both a showcase of our technological development with its 115 kW 1.5 litre turbo-petrol engine and a perfect example of our futuristic design language that sees nothing as sacred and that looks at any new technology or design element through the lens of functionality and customer benefit,” says Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager of Omoda South Africa.

The OMODA C5 range starts at R447 900 for the OMODA C5 Tech model. Even at this price, the C5 offers a comprehensive range of features, including diamond-cut alloy wheels, a dual-screen 10.25” cockpit with touch-screen infotainment and vehicle information and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The list of creature comforts and styling enhancements increases exponentially with the OMODA C5 LUX, LUX S, the OMODA C5 ELEGANCE and ELEGANCE S. The last-mentioned offers customers a unique dual-tone design, with red highlights on the wheels, roof and in the cockpit and perhaps the highest level of luxuries in its segment.

OMODA has further increased the appeal of its model range recently by introducing a sporty OMODA C5 GT. Aside from the styling upgrades, such as aerodynamic side skirts, a front splitter and a rear wing, the OMODA C5 GT is fitted with the brand’s Kunpeng 1.6 turbocharged petrol engine.

With this engine, the OMODA C5 GT delivers an impressive 145 kW and 290 Nm of torque for a 0-100 km/h acceleration of only 7.8 seconds.

This new model was introduced at the Mr South Africa pageant in November this year. OMODA was the official vehicle sponsor of the Mr South Africa event, and it used this opportunity to showcase its C5 range and take the wraps off the C5 GT. Contestants and celebrities were transported in a range of stylish OMODA C5 models and the vehicle received wide praise for its performance, stylish design and SUV-comfort.

Says Gahagan: “We decided that we would follow a zero-compromise policy with the product planning for OMODA. This means that customers receive the best possible design, features and specifications with the OMODA C5 and OMODA C5 GT, regardless of which model they prefer,” says Gahagan.

This approach to product design and development has certainly benefitted OMODA sales. Aside from its success in the South African market, OMODA has also performed exceptionally well in established markets, such as China, Russia and Australia, and newly launched markets, such as New Zealand and Brazil.

OMODA sold 12 148 vehicles in its export markets in November and an impressive 134 078 vehicles across all its markets since the start of the year. This is a very impressive sales performance for a young brand with limited, but growing, exposure to global markets.

Returning to the SA COTY. The SAGMJ Car of the Year competition is one of the most highly regarded of its kind in the world. Unlike many other COTY competitions, the South African version includes rigorous testing, both at low speeds over uneven surfaces and at the highest possible speeds, with sharp course corrections and dynamic handling of obstacles.

These tests should prove to be no problem for OMODA, which has taken its sporty design and transferred it into an equally sporty and dynamic chassis.

With its purebred engineering credentials and stunning design, the OMODA C5 is sure to offer unmatched value to customers in its segment and to the judges of the competition.

“We are competing in one of the most hotly contested segments – the Compact Family vehicle segment. While there are many contenders in this segment, we are confident that the OMODA C5 will offer unmatched value, dynamic capabilities and performance to impress the judges and make it into the list of COTY finalists,” says Gahagan.

  • OMODA C5, the official vehicle of artists and organisers
  • Daily double tickets up for grabs for anyone who spots the branded C5 in Ballito and the North Coast

It wouldn’t be summer without the Ballito BIG Week and the KZN SUMMER Festival. And it wouldn’t be the hottest ticket on the festival calendar without OMODA.

OMODA has joined the festivities in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal, as the Official Vehicle Partner to both music festivals. This means that it will not only support the various music events but also drive the music stars to and from Sugar Rush Park.

The Ballito BIG Week starts this Friday, and the festivities end with a massive New Year’s Eve event on 31 December and the car of choice for all the fun and festivities is the OMODA C5.

The OMODA C5 is the current flagship in the OMODA range. It represents everything that has made OMODA a global hit among vehicle buyers looking for a sporty SUV that breaks the mould yet delivers on all the features that have made sport utility vehicles so popular.

OMODA designed the OMODA C5 as the first model to follow its fashion-forward “Art in Motion” design language. As such, the model features a diamond-cut geometric matrix grille and notably eye-catching 18-inch dual-tone blade wheels.

The dual-tone theme continues with the roof design, with darkened B- and C-pillars that visually separate the roofline from the muscular body and create a dynamic profile unlike any other SUV on the market.

Inside the OMODA C5, the driver and passengers are spoilt with a long list of luxury features, including dual high-resolution digital screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an Intelligent Voice Command system.

“OMODA is the perfect brand for the next generation of vehicle buyers. These buyers value a unique design that is both fashionable and futuristic,” says Tony Liu, Deputy General Manager of OMODA Brand O&J.

“We believe that the OMODA C5 perfectly represents the OMODA spirit and is therefore a perfect fit for the KZN SUMMER Festival and Ballito BIG Week.”

The Ballito BIG Week kicks off on Friday, 22 December with a massive music spectacular headlined by the Afro House sensation, Shimza. He will be joined by a jam-packed roster of artists, including Lemon & Herb, Argento Dust, Sun El Musician, Culoe de Song and Thandi Draai.

On Tuesday, 26 December, the legendary Black Coffee headlines a second music festival that includes Caiiro, Son of Dennis, Enoo Napa and Mat Elle, to name but a few.

The fun continues on Wednesday, 27 December, when the fleet of OMODA C5 models will drop off Jeremy Loops, Will Linley and the ever-popular Goodluck at Sugar Rush Park for the first of the Ballito Live events.

Not done yet, the third Ballito BIG Week concerts will kick off on Friday, 29 December with superstar DJs, including Blxckie, DBN Gogo, Mellow & Sleazy, DJ Lag, Whitesoul and others.

The fun reaches a crescendo on New Year’s Eve when global stars GoldFish will rock Ballito. They will be joined by the Saxby Twins and Neon Dreams for the perfect start to the new year.

“G&G Productions are proud to welcome OMODA as the official vehicle partner of Ballito BIG Week and the KZN SUMMER festivals in Ballito this December.

“The two festivals are in effect five premium one-day festivals attracting a wide mix of South African and International music lovers and holiday makers. Our approach of offering a premium experience is perfectly aligned with that of OMODA, and we are excited to develop our partnership further in the future,” says Greg Walsh, the Founder & CEO of G&G Productions, the organisers of the two music festivals.

To crown its support of the two music festivals, OMODA has branded a number of OMODA C5 models that will cruise through the streets of Ballito and the wider North Coast during December.

Anyone who spots one of these stunning SUVs can take a picture of themselves with the OMODA C5 and post it on Instagram with the tags @ballitobigweek, @kznsummer and @omodasouthafrica. OMODA and G&G Events will pick one lucky winner every day to win a set of double tickets to one of the music events.

JAECOO made its global debut at Auto Shanghai 2023 in China as recently as April, when it was announced as an independent brand with a focus on urban off-road SUVs and a fitting brand slogan of “From Classic, Beyond Classic”.

“At JAECOO, we are tirelessly dedicated to making breakthroughs in the automotive space and the upcoming J7 will be South Africa’s first taste of the future of intelligent mobility when it arrives early next year,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA&JAECOO.

JAECOO has officially announced their entry into South Africa, making it one of the very first countries in the world to welcome the newly established urban off-road SUV brand.

JAECOO made its global debut at Auto Shanghai 2023 in China as recently as April, when it was announced as an independent brand with a focus on urban off-road SUVs and a fitting brand slogan of “From Classic, Beyond Classic”.

JAECOO made its global debut at Auto Shanghai 2023 in China as recently as April, when it was announced as an independent brand with a focus on urban off-road SUVs and a fitting brand slogan of “From Classic, Beyond Classic”.

The brand’s no-compromises driving solution is called All Road Drive Intelligent System (ARDIS), which offers seven unique driving modes, each optimising the vehicle’s dynamics, power delivery and other aspects for specific driving scenarios. Each mode delivers a unique experience that brings out the best in the SUV for that chosen condition.

Technical advancements such as these were brought to life by JAECOO’s team of highly skilled specialists, such as chief engineer Peter John Matkin, who brought vast experience from his time at a leading British brand. It’s a similar case in the design department, where individuals such as chief designer Chris Rhoades applied extensive styling knowledge from years at top European manufacturers.

JAECOO will launch with the J7 in early 2024. Positioned as a mid-sized SUV, the J7 boasts as many as seven drive modes and comfortably seats five adults in a luxurious cabin that also features a 14.8-inch vertically positioned touchscreen.

The J7 and other upcoming JAECOO products will be sold through and supported by a dedicated network of OMODA&JAECOO dealerships, with 30 already established across South Africa.

“Earlier this year, South Africa was the first country on the African continent to offer the OMODA brand and our nation is now among the first in the world to welcome JAECOO. We have big plans for JAECOO, including the expansion of our dealer network to approximately 50 by the end of 2024,” said Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager for OMODA&JAECOO.

“At JAECOO, we’re setting new standards for sports utility vehicles, crafting models that can excel both as luxury on-road SUVs and as capable off-roaders. Our elegant SUVs are as comfortable transporting you to your desk in the city as they are taking you to the dunes in the desert,” added Liu. “They will thus appeal to a strong, fearless person in work who is equally adventurous at leisure.”

To lead this new urban off-road SUV space, JAECOO offers two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive performance, innovative designs, remarkable safety features and forward-thinking intelligent technologies.

The JAECOO name is inspired by a fusion of the German word “jäger” (meaning “hunter”) and the English term “cool”, capturing two elements central to the brand’s philosophy: outdoor adventure and urbanism.

More details and local specifications will be released closer to the J7’s launch next year.
